FAUMUN Expert Lecture by Prof. Bielefeldt on Human Rights and His Work as UN Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Religion or Belief
Our second expert lecture was given by Prof. Dr. Dr. h.c. Bielefeldt – a former UN Special Rapporteur on Freedom of Religion or Belief. In discharging this mandate, he undertook country inspections and presented reports to various UN forums.
He started his lecture with a general introduction to the different modes of communication including rituals, experiments, confrontation, and expertise. Afterwards, he opened the room to a discussion about his personal experience in e.g., Sierra Leone or Vietnam, reveling also rather shocking and traumatizing. Us Delegates found ourselves captivated by his experiences and if possible, could have kept on asking questions until the morning.
A huge thank you goes out to Prof. Bielefeldt for this thought-provoking insight into the work at the United Nations and for answering all our questions!
